Holy Lute wins the G3 Eddie D. Stakes at Santa Anita

Friday, September 30th, 2016

JAMIE THERIOT, HOLY LUTE, WINNER: “I knew he was going to run big, he’s been doing well. Third race off a layoff, working very well, very nice. He ran phenomenal today. I told Jim he would run big. I told him I’d be very disappointed if he didn’t but, he did.”

JAMES CASSIDY, HOLY LUTE, WINNER: “I knew if this horse had a good break, a clean trip, he’d run well. It was a little awkward at the start, the way he broke, but it turned out very well.

“More than likely I’d say the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is where we’re headed.”

Sunland Park Lifts Quarantine March 9

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

The New Mexico Livestock Board has tentatively set March 9 as the date Sunland Park will no longer be under quarantine for the presence of equine herpesvirus..

If final approval is granted, Sunland Park will open its barn area to outside horses and allow horses currently stabled on site to travel offsite. On Jan. 21, the property underwent a full barn-area quarantine that included nearly 1,600 horses.

“It has been a tough few weeks, and I want to thank everyone for their hard work and understanding,” Sunland Park general manager Rick Baugh said. “This virus is very serious, and all our focus and resources have been dedicated to reducing its impact. I’d like to thank all parties involved for their help.”

As of March 3, five horses remained in the isolation barn for positive EHV-1 tests, and all are expected to be released in the coming days. More than 342 EHV-1 tests were run in an effort to identify horses with the virus and reduce its spread, and 68 horses tested positive. The virus was contained to 4.2% of the barn area.

Sunland Park Postpones Racing Due to EHV-1 Outbreak

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Sunland Park has suspended racing for at least 14 days after five horses tested positive for the equine herpes virus EHV-1. A number of precautions and tests overseen by the New Mexico Livestock Board and New Mexico Racing Commission have been implemented to stop further spread of the virus. “In the interest of equine safety, Sunland Park Racetrack is postponing racing for an initial period of 14 days,” Rick Baugh, general manager of the track, said. “I’d like to thank all the agencies involved, as well as our horsemen, for their cooperation and support as we take a proactive approach to protect our horses and make a quick return to live racing.” Officials at Sunland stressed that, pending resolution of the situation, the entirety of the race meet would not be cancelled. Missed race dates will not be made up, however. The $800,000 GIII Sunland Derby is scheduled for Mar. 20.

A message to CRS partners

Friday, February 20th, 2015

With extreme appreciation to all our partners over the years, CRS is on the threshold of 3 major milestones which should be accomplished in 2015.

Class Racing Stable is proud of starting its 20th year of being involved in the great sport of thoroughbred horse racing!

We have accomplished over these twenty years: a Breeder’s Cup winner, several other trips to the Breeder’s Cup races, Graded winners, Stakes winners and many more.

We are nearing 300 winners overall; which we should accomplish sometime later this year.

We should also be passing the $12,000,000 (Twelve Million dollars) mark in purse earnings for our partners.

We will be passing the 1,800 lifetime starts over this same period.

 Again Thank you all!!

Santa Anita notes

A mini-monsoon that erupted on March 25 in advance of the Santa Ana Stakes likely had an effect on Bauble Queen’s disappointing performance in the mile and an eighth race that was run on a “good” turf course.Firmer footing in Saturday’s Grade II Santa Barbara Handicap at 1 ¼ miles on turf should provide a means for improvement. So says Joe Talamo, who was aboard when Bauble Queen finished an even ninth in a field of 10 in the Santa Ana and who retains the mount on Saturday.“The turf was really soft after an absolute downpour,” Talamo recounted. “She just didn’t handle it. But she should be tough tomorrow. I think the mile and a quarter will suit her well.” Added trainer Eric Kruljac: “My filly was totally confused before the race, with that downpour hitting her in the face.”Prior to the Santa Ana, Bauble Queen won the Grade II Robert J. Frankel Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on Santa Anita’s firm turf course. The consistent daughter of Arch has a 3-2-2 record from nine starts for the Class Racing Stable of Joe Masino of Escondido. The field for the Santa Barbara, the ninth of 10 races: Hard Seven, Edwin Maldonado, 8-1; Cambina, Rafael Bejarano, 3-1; Glowing Spirit, Victor Espinoza, 20-1; Capital Plan, Brice Blanc, 5-1; Vamo a Galupiar, Mike Smith, 5-2; Bauble Queen, Joe Talamo, 9-2; and Camelia Rose, Joel Rosario, 2-1.
